Job description

It's almost noon on Friday and the orders are coming in. Schnitzel, goulash, some Kassler, and someone wants soup, too. The kitchen is small, the team is close-knit, and the rhythm is just what you were looking for. No one here stands with tweezers placing microgreens on a slate. The food is fair, the portions are decent, and guests leave satisfied and happy. That's the job.

This role is in a German-speaking kitchen (schnitzel, salads, hamburger, pizza), from May to the end of September. This does not require experience but does require an affinity for cooking. 🍳

The minimum commitment is four weeks, which makes this really accessible if you cannot commit to a full season. You can start from May. The kitchen is in a German-speaking country, which means the cultural immersion is real, the food culture is deep, and you pick up more language than you expect just by being there every day.

What you bring

  • You have an affinity for cooking
  • The ability to work cleanly and efficiently under service truck in a small team
  • Basic knowledge of kitchen hygiene and food safety standards
  • Availability starting in May for a minimum of four weeks, with flexibility in start date and duration
  • Some comfort working in or around a German-speaking environment, you don't have to be fluent but a willingness to immerse yourself in the language helps tremendously

What you do

  • Cooking
  • Maintaining consistent, well-tempered service in a small, close-knit kitchen environment
  • Keeping quality and presentation of dishes up to menu level
  • Helping with kitchen preparation, inventory management and keeping the work area clean and organized
  • Cooperating with a small team and communicating effectively, even in a German-speaking environment
  • Adapting your pace and priorities to what service demands on a given day

What you get

  • A paid seasonal kitchen role from May to the end of September, with a minimum commitment of only four weeks
  • Real cultural immersion in a German-speaking country, the food culture, language and daily rhythms of living abroad
  • A kitchen environment without the hierarchy and pressure of fine dining, honest work in a close-knit team
  • Flexibility to move in for a short period or stay for the full season, depending on your availability
